Nitro, Drag Racing In The Sixties: 1964—1966
In 1964,Steve Banks bought a Pontiac GTO with a four-speed stick and a Hurst shifter, Tri-Power, and three Rochester 2G carburetors. He left Chicago with that car to a new advertising job in Los Angeles.
At a Shell station at Larchmont and Beverly he met Nobo, whofine-tuned the carburetors, replaced the stock tires, torsion, and sway bars, and added Koni shocks and a Sun tachometer.
Nobo then introduced him the Southern California drag racing scene.
The photos he took on the intervening Saturdays document that thriving scene.
